Acre San Jose del Cabo Restaurant Review

Acre's core ethos revolves around its farm-to-table dining experience, where the restaurant prides itself on using the freshest locally-sourced, sustainably-raised ingredients. This commitment to sustainability is evident in the very fabric of Acre's operations, with the restaurant and cocktail bar being the heart and soul of their 25-acre lush sanctuary. The property features elegant treehouses, organic farms, and private event spaces, all designed to foster connection and celebration within the heart of Los Cabos.

Upon arrival, Acre's immediate charm is its thoughtfulness, evident from the incense-lined path leading through a mini-forest to the restaurant. This initial encounter, combined with the sight of meticulously tilled sand and soil, sets a precedent for the evening's experience. The warmth of the welcome, knowing our names as we approached, added a personalized touch that was unexpected yet highly appreciated. Along the pathway were many small coves of curated space, both rentable treehouses and informational plaque guides about Acre. A unique aspect of Acre's commitment to the community and environment is the Acre Animal Rescue, a charitable program founded by Rachael Watt. This initiative began almost serendipitously and has grown to provide a safe haven for a wide variety of animals, including dogs, donkeys, horses, pigs, goats, rabbits, peacocks, and even a camel. The rescue focuses on providing a safe space for animals in need, with a particular emphasis on pregnant dogs and their puppies. To date, Acre Animal Rescue has managed to find homes for approximately 900 puppies, many of which have been adopted by guests of the hotel.

I always get distracted by the animal stories, but the service, led by the proficient trio of Namur, Gio, and Priscila, was notably swift, friendly, and professional. Their attentiveness ensured that our dining experience flowed smoothly from one course to the next without any unnecessary delays. I had no complaints in my review, but if I had, I am sure it would have been sorted—Acre had already thoughtfully replied to my positive review before I had even left town.

The menu at Acre is a celebration of flavors and creativity. The cheddar biscuits are an immediate standout, earning their reputation as a must-try item. Although the cocktails were inventive, a wider selection of non-alcoholic options would have been welcome. The wagyu tacos and kampachi aguachile satisfied our diverse group's cravings, with half of us indulging in the seafood offerings. The glazed chicken, served on the bone with a side of chickpea puree, carrots, and a chili glaze, was flavorful and moist—a testament to the kitchen's ability to execute simple dishes with finesse. The pork, served in an unconventional 'brick' form, was both a surprise and a delight, providing a playful twist on traditional presentations. Our meal concluded with the Frozen Key Lime Pie, a refreshing end to a richly flavored meal— love the little crunch provided by the white chocolate crumbs.

Acre's atmosphere contributes significantly to its allure. The innovative lighting strategy, where lamps are brought to and removed from tables as guests arrive and depart, creates an intimate setting that complements the natural darkness of the surrounding area. This, along with the incense-infused pathway and the private treehouses visible along the route, adds layers of intrigue and charm to the Acre experience.

Beyond its culinary offerings, Acre positions itself as a versatile venue capable of hosting significant events, including weddings, in a setting that combines rustic elegance with natural beauty. The journey to Acre, while slightly challenging, is part of its charm, revealing a venue that prioritizes attention to detail and guest experience above all else.

In sum, Acre stands out as a dining destination that marries the beauty of its natural surroundings with innovative cuisine and attentive service. It's a place where every detail, from the ambiance to the presentation of each dish, is considered and crafted to enhance the overall dining experience. Whether you're there for a casual dinner or a special occasion, Acre delivers a memorable evening that goes beyond the ordinary. Would I recommend it? Absolutely—it is a great special occasion meal!
